[the witcher] I see people singing the praises of the books lately but no one seems to mention how weird it is to women

????? I know this could be just one character being weird (although it does seem to be a lead up to have her say, what else, how hot she is for geralt) it fits into a pattern of weird shit. Like there are some women in this one, season of storms, who are specifically called out as ugly, and written as laughably dumb and incompetent.

And the bit with like, what real men are like, just before that we got jaskier talking about how women are a different mysterious species. This isn’t as disturbing as this series can get toward women, thank goodness, but it’s gross. And, in the case of the pictures I took, laughably weird.

Jormy: Yeah but that doesn’t mean I can’t call it out on my own plurk, especially when the witcher books struck me as particularly bad

Oh, god, no, I didn't mean to imply you shouldn't be pissed off about it

Although in hindsight that... is absolutely how that came of

It was more of a weary sigh in the vein of "goddamn fantasy fandoms at it again"

Ah I see what you meant, yeah for some reason it seems worse in fantasy stuff DX

I think there's a deeply regressive streak in high fantasy and what's expected of it, and it's still seen as a Man Thing to a degree where often female and feminist fans are just relieved to see women at all?

I blame Tolkien but also I blame everyone else

XD yeah, enough blame to go around. and with the Witcher there are a ton of female characters who are for the most part doing their own thing, which is good, but then the witcher universe itself seems to have a... perspective on women and how they are and how they get treated
