please ive been walking around for five hours and my previously healed sprained ankle is tweaking up again, please just go online and do your census its infinitely less painful than having an awkward ennumerator show up at your house and ask you questions while squinting bc the sun is directly behind your house
pats you, GOOD JOB YOU DID IT... and yes god it's so easy to do it online
I did it and it took like 5 minutes
i legit don't know why we don't START with 'would you rather me give you your case number and do it online, or do you want to have to talk to me for longer'
cause i definitely for more than one person said 'yeah you can do it online let me just say you didn't answer the door, then i can leave you a notice of visit and it's got the instructions'
if i could OPEN with that i think it'd go a lot faster but here we are.
I did it online a few months ago and it was very easy! Co-sign this.
also are u elevating your ankle now
good job
also i had my brace for the afternoon, and im gonna start wearing it again, it didn't really hurt until like id spent 3 whole hours doing long walking parts, since a lot of it was back and forth within a single apartment building the morning was fine
but when i had to walk down to the allen street/front street area and dealt with a few units with no elevators my ankle started complaining so i cut my hours short for today and am gonna re-inpt my hours to give myself time to take a 3 ish hour lunch break between 4 hour shifts so hopefully it doesn't get too bad
I never got one. How do you get your number? o:
I filed it out onlone and census person still came to my house.
nvm, found out you can do it without a number.
some addresses are funky and need to be verified
and yeah you can do it without a number, having a case id number is just a thing enumerators get to Prove they've visited the houses they say they did
also about 10% of cases get re-interviewed for quality control measures
My parents got mailed a thing and I live with them
...actually they got mailed two
you only have to do one census per household, so your if you live with your parents and they did their thing then you're counted
I did mine online, it's super easy, highly recommend
i just want to say big thank you to everyone replurking this! I don't have a lot of friends on plurk by design, so knowing that this is getting further than my little sphere is really cool!
I did mine online months ago. Takes 5 min. or less.
Ohhhhhhhh that is probably who has been knocking on my door recently-- sorry census person, i am used to either Awkward Politics or Awkward Jesus Talks so i dont answer %D ((i did it tho!!))
((Good work i hope your ankle behaves!!))
yes please fill it out asap. I too am an enumerator for this census and wow is it awkward sometimes
yeah they got confused since they got two envelopes both this THIS NEEDS TO BE FILLED OUT on them
fellow enumerator. we are also anxious people at times so please, if you end up answering the door to one of us, it really only takes about ten minutes and while the questions are redundant at times we're following a script.
like I'm actually pretty bad at keeping up with paper stuff (and I got shit handwriting) so the census being online is a blessing. I wish more stuff was like this.
...I am 99% sure I did this online
i filled my census out the day it came in the mail in april
Much love and support for people working the census this year! I worked non-response followup (office side) in 2010 and know how rough it is out there.
There was a lot of "oh no this guy who lives in a random shack near the river has avoided contact all five times we've tried, what do" before the pandemic, and it's probably a lot weirder and harder this time around
I got so upset because there's no options other than male and female so I have to misgender my roommate to fill it out that I never... finished filling it out.
ACTUALLY, that's part of what the census is there to do. I can't remember the specifics of the form, but at least with race/ethnicity, categories are shaped by self-reporting by census response. If there's a blank space anywhere, throwing "nonbinary gender" or whatever applies to your roommate will help get the right language circulating in the system
(why do I always start these things with the word "actually" I'm so sorry everyone for being That Person)
actually, the online version has zero option for that
and I'm not living at my apartment because my dad's sick, so I don't have a paper copy
I guess I should see if I can download a paper copy.
if I don't have a copy that was mailed to my house, I'll have to fill it out online despite being forced to misgender my roommate
...or I guess I could call and do it by phone
-- that's exactly what I was going to suggest next. Was just digging up the link for it
Responding by Phone
It would give you the opportunity to talk to a human, who can write down any extra notes that the census doesn't cover
with the downside that phone calls chew up a lot of extra time. But there's usually a number of people in the office making outgoing calls who'll be relieved to have information drop in their laps instead of getting yelled at / hung up on
Also filled it out months ago. Suppose I misgendered myself but I'm kind of used to it and there aren't any labels that fit perfectly anyway so... shrug
oh, also! for those who live in apartments or other places with restricted access... filling it out yourself in advance saves enumerators a ton of trouble cos frequently they can't get into the building to leave a Notice of Visit at a household's door. they have to rely on someone letting them in, be it the unit they buzzed or another resident or a building
manager. and some building managers get cranky about letting in any nonresidents even for this. even though we're not soliciters and we're allowed legal temporary entry.
yup! one building i got into today bc the person returning was census friendly, another one i was yelled at for trying to steal packages bc the guy was Not Believing that I was a census worker. :|
yeah i was like, is there a property manager i could talk to, or perhaps a doorman of some sort? and he just closed the door at me
the other person tho was the POLAR OPPOSITE she literally said 'people in this building haven't done their census? Go get em!'
wow. the worst I've had was just a building manager asking how I got in (I told the truth which was that a resident let me in) and telling me I should wait outside and use the buzzer system and could only go to the units that buzzed me in.
....and the unit I was at at the time was in fact the rental office
I wound up leaving cos I didn't want him griping about me and then came back a few hours later yo finish the building using the buzzers
I have a question about what information I need to include on the census that I haven't seen answered on the website
When are we supposed to be taking the data from? Some of the questions reference "April" but I don't see any clear instruction anywhere else about where to take the info from. I recently moved and am about to have another roommate shakeup so... I'm not sure what to include
april 1st 2020 is census day
so all answers should be based around the address you were living or staying at on april first, if you moved into your current address after that, answer relative to your previous one
i hate that they put it on april fools day why. why? why. was april fools a thing in the seventeen hundreds? is this a hold over from the literal constitution? why. ugh.
ahh all right. thank you, that clears a lot of stuff up for me and I'm gonna have to talk to my old roommates
