Semi customizable character ideal but not essential. More emphasis on story but ideally with less cut scenes than KH3, lol. Borderlands 2 was fun too.
Also since it seems all my steam/plurk friends have it: can I just start with Witcher 3 if I was going to or should I try 1 or 2 first?
Oh also which AC games if I went that route?
Someone tell me what to play that's like old SNES RPGs but fancier.
(Although, related, I did buy that fancy Marvel game on steam if anyone wants to play together)
dragon age is kinda like this if you enjoy dialogue trees
even within classes, the sub-classes are p customizable. romance options exist bc of course it’s bioware.
if you want to go older than that there’s neverwinter nights that is semi-open world where you can do your fetch quests in any order
based in the forbidden realms (dnd world)
older than that is baldur’s gate 1 and 2
similar system but less refined
Quests in any order scares me because I don't want to get too far ahead in one thing and screw myself on another. But Dragon Age sounds like a winner. :3
how are the graphics for baldur's? BL2 gave me a wee bit of a headache from the graphics so I'm aiming for slightly better than that (but greedfall is still p basic so doesn't need to be FFXX or whatever they're on)
Oh and greedfall is bioware I think so maybe I should stalk all their games, lol
derecho: also do you know of anything in that vein that can be multiplayer?
diablo i think is the closest that isn’t an mmorpg. but a lot less customizable
oohhh dragon age is a good recommendation! inquisition is the latest game and i was able to play it just fine after reading a summary of the previous two games. dragon age (the first) is p old and i couldn't get into it. i didn't play da2 but it has a bad reputation iirc.
biowafers: good to know! do you remember what the issue with da2 was?
lol i saw this and i've been thinking
Breath of the Wild is /chef's kiss
derecho: bleh. been there, done that. oh well.... which of the three (da, neverwinter, bg) would you recommend most?
You don't even have to do the plot you can just do whatever
Run around in your underwear catching bugs
Chatvert: just making sure. you know I need your recs
(originally autocorrected to "oh god" which also seems apt)
i've been deep into hyrule warriors but that's a musou so not quite what you're looking for
animal crossing, while not a fantasy rpg, is open-world :V
steam keeps being like "TRY MONSTER HUNTER" and I'm like "no, steam, I'm not in it for the hack and slash ;_; "
lemme check my steam good call
also hewwo good to see you
ARK: Survival Evolved is cool if you like dinos and you can play it singleplayer
Bastion, Hades, and Transistor are all amazing, I stan Supergiant Games
Those three aren't open world but the stories....
Oh I did look at Hades so good to know it's solid. I'll look at the others
I don't care as much about the open world tbh. i mostly just like the good story with semi customized fighting style
I cried at the ending of Bastion and it was only ONE of the endings
are you tricking me into FEELS
supergiant's games are all top tier, highly recommend
iirc the DA2 issue had to do a lot with reused assets? people thought zones felt very same-y, i think. but i have friends who absolutely loved it, so ymmv
