This is a quiet film; nonetheless, I recommend turning it up, especially if you have a sound system.
Portrait of a Lady on Fire is available through several streaming services, including but not necessarily limited to Hulu, Kanopy, Google Play, YouTube, Vudu, AppleTV, DIRECTV, and Alamo On Demand.
It's available at no additional charge through Hulu and Kanopy if you have subscriptions.
A word about Kanopy: This is a service that coordinates with public libraries in the US to make free programming available to library patrons. Get your library card (you'll need it) and check it out.
Lastly, if you're an old-schooler, Portrait of a Lady on Fire is available on blu-ray and DVD through the Criterion Collection.
Now turn down the lights, hit the couch, and pick up the remote!
ALSO: We still need to pick a book for the following month's discussion.
AlannaRobbiani suggested
The Exiles, by Christina Baker Kline. Anyone else have any ideas?
I think that sounds good! I just thought of another pick but let's do Alanna's first, it just came up as a suggestion for me on Hoopla today! it's a sign! lol
this was my though, a really weird short story collection that I think book club would enjoy (also good for costumes if we want to bring those back lol)
this graphic novel would also be interesting for discussion and I think Coy was wanting to read it, too
this would also make for a good discussion!
okay those are my thoughts! and BTW Polly is plurking from the book club account, it's not just me having a conversation with myself
Yes, because Cat and I sound EXACTLY alike!!
Okay, so we're going with
AlannaRobbiani 's pick,
The Exiles, by Christina Baker Kline, for October's book. It's time to get cracking, y'all!
maybe I was doing my Polly impression! oh, US peeps, you can borrow it on Hoopla if your library has that
My library needs to start using Hoopla!
I just wanted to pop in here and thank
PollyPaperclip for the invite
I am not an SLeryet-- but I'm very honored to be invited!
original_fine just discovered the secret of double-dashes in Plurk!
I'll also say that several people have attested that ours is the best book/movie club they've ever attended.
This is a perfect opportunity to remind everyone to watch Portrait of a Lady on Fire!
Exactly! Here's your reminder: Watch Portrait of a Lady on Fire!
ARGH I just forgot I had too many dashes!
A dashing young plurker if I ever saw one. Hello!
Haven't decided yet, but to stay on schedule it should be late September/early October.
It's not too soon to put it on the calendar.
if the same times work for everyone as last time.... does Saturday October 2 work? (Sunday 3 for
pruememo)
alright let's see if we can reach consensus
we got Polly! We got Cat!
an owly cannot commit
We have someone staying with us that weekend, but it should be late enough to work!
I can work with 2PM SLT on that date, whatever works for our far-flung members
