Actually, there is a Reason, and that Reason is that I'm probably going to be getting a lot of mileage out of Volstadt soon, and that means I need a cohesive idea of what Volstadt is

And my "know the setting intimately and let the plotlines build themselves" philosophy is biting me in the ass.

But it's fuckin hard to write a fantasy city with a population of over a million.

The current wiki listing has the population at 523k, which is wrong. It should be about 1.5 million.

Which, if I was to go by the 3.5 rules, means I'd be dividing the city into approximately... 2,800 districts.

Fun

Sharn: City of Towers quadrupled the population per district, meaning that I'd have "only" 700 districts, which is still bonkers.

For the record, the reason the population of Volstadt is what it is is because it's based on the populations of New York and London in the mid-19th century.

Still an unmanageably large number of districts, so I'll probably quintuple the population per district or more.
