There are an awful lot of Cap cosplayers who remind me more of John Walker than Steve Rogers, but it probably shouldn't surprise me that much considering Walker is just a Captain America cosplayer anyway.
It's disappointing. And I'm not really talking about anyone in particular, just this weird trend I've noticed, especially like ... now. In mid September, in the middle of things being what they are.
And obviously they're not gonna be THAT BAD, but there's just this handful of dudes that rub me the wrong way and I sort of side eye their posts and don't say anything because I don't wanna get into it.
But it sort of ... like. There are people - whether cosplay or RP - who are drawn to characters for reasons, usually they see something of themselves in that character, or something of who they want to be. And I don't begrudge anyone their own personal interpretation, like ... you do you.
I guess it feels like there are people who look at the surface of a character and play that; I think that's more a cosplay thing than an RP thing. Because when you're writing them you have to dig deeper, usually. Anyone can throw on a suit. I just. With the Marvel characters especially I feel like who they are is almost opposite to what they project.
I don't know if that's like, a deconstruction with more modern interpretations. But my friend our Thor talks a lot about what he sees in the Thor cosplay groups too- a lot of competition and bravado, a lot of perfectionism and weird shaming of new people. Which is??? so against the character?
... like the whole point is being who you are, not who you're supposed to be; the point of his journey is that you're always worthy? so let's treat each other like that?
Anyway just a weird observation that I would rather put here than FB because I do not want to get into an argument about it with the people who are going to Be That Guy about it
