disappointed. I went to Aldi's yesterday and the Advent calendars for chocolate, wine and dogs that I wanted were either sold out or not available. On the plus side, only two more weeks until butterbeer.
The daughter of one of Mrs. Writer's friends is getting married in Orlando and scored an incredible discount on a stay at Portofino Bay Hotel for wedding guests. A night there normally goes for $450 taxes not included. We're getting it for just under $200 a night, taxes included. It comes with Express Passes for Universal Studios which normally go for $60
to $150 per day each. This will be my first visit to Universal Studios since before the Harry Potter themed additions to the parks so I am really looking forward to it. We'll be in Orlando for 4 days (3 at the parks and 1 day for the wedding).
Joey went to Aldi on Tuesday, the day the advents were released. She arrived 8 minutes after opening, it was packed, and several advents were already sold out.
That included the cheese one. She went back yesterday, however, and there was one cheese advent out, so she snapped it up.
So they go fast, but they do get replenished. Also... they get replenished, but then they go fast again. So check back often if it's something you really want.
As for the Orlando trip, that sounds awesome! Our Disney trip in March doesn't include Universal, but we may do it some other time in the future. Have fun!
I made a last minute decision to not get advents this year
awww no. i forgot about them, no way i'll get one now.
That's kind of irritating to not have the advent calendars available. That deal for hotel and Universal sounds great! I bought a Lego advent calendar in September, now I just have to remember that I have it and where I stashed it. Wenson won't be home til mid December, so we'll have to figure out an opening plan.
Dede39, as I said, they replenish. It's worth checking.
They did have cat, beer, hard cider. Lego, and Star Wars Advent calendars for sale. Just not the ones I wanted. I will try again first thing tomorrow morning.
While we were there they did the coffee roasting ceremony which was lovely and smelled amazing.
Hilda_Static, I'm not surprised, Ethiopian food is great for vegetarian options! And we just lost our local Ethiopian restaurant (went out of business). We don't plan to rent a car, so we'll probably be sticking to on-property dining, but we'll keep it in mind if we get the urge to venture out!
Yup, we'll be staying on property (first half at Beach Club, second half at Polynesian), and we have seen good things about Boma... and actually all the dining options at Animal Kingdom Lodge.
Definitely seems the best of the resorts for serious foodies.
The Animal Kingdom Lodge also has a fancy-schmancy sit down restaurant that’s supposed to be very good but I’ve never been.
Sanaa and Jiko are both supposed to be excellent!
I second Hilda's recommendation of Boma. We always make a point of going there when staying on site at Disney (and sometimes when we are staying off site).
