For someone whose biggest accomplishment in soulsborne games can be summed up as "beat those bell gargoyles in ds1 that one time," I sure am tempted by Elden Ring.

the smart thing to do would probably be to wait until I can pick the game up at half cost and see if I still want to do it at that point
I've been playing it and I can tell you that a) the world is absolutely gorgeous and 
it's so huge that it greatly reduces the [YOU DIED] frustration for me, because there's no place where you're just stuck dying repeatedly

there's always somewhere else to go poke around, or some other boss to fight for a while, or some new thing to learn
also you can summon ghosts to help you which is a significant reduction in the level of dying
It is SO beautiful.
I've watched some people play early parts of the game and ngl, the idea of seeing that big dude on a big horse right near the starting place and just going "nah." and wandering off sounds delightful. XD
I still haven't beaten that dude, he's a jerk
wandering off and not picking that fight until you have better tools to win it is definitely intended behavior
likewise, if you're poking around in a swamp and a dragon lands next to you, not poking it with a stick is encouraged

it's an intriguing world! lots of people are talking about it in ways that make it sound really fun! your horse has very cute horns! From Soft Monster design!
