[merch poll-ish] when you guys buy prints, do you have a preference of it having a signature or no?

or do you not care much either way?

and as a follow up, if you do prefer a signed print, would the signature printed with the piece be ok, or does a hand written signature hit different?

like, the signature is obviously handwritten since you can tell it's sharpie or done in a metallic pen or something

heavensblessing: has there been any situation where you think it'd bother you? for example if an artist had signed a piece with a large signature or has covered a bit of the piece?

I think a handwritten signature would be neat but I don't think I'd like a printed signature unless it was like, explicitly a way to locate the artist again like their username or something, since otherwise it's just obscuring The Art

but a handwritten signature has the inherent value of being unique as well as a gesture that took extra time to do

I have one (1) strong preference

I kind of enjoy printed sigs that are incorporated into the art

if the signature is printed then my preference is that it 1) doesn't detract from the piece and is relatively easy to ignore OR looks nice, 2) is legible so i can google that name to find the artist in the future. so if it's just an incoherent squiggle then... it better be a nice looking squiggle i guess

if i'm buying a print at a con, it's nice to get the artist's signature in metallic pen because that feels special, but it isn't a dealbreaker because i am just happy to get their art to put in my house

i think signatures, just like video game UI, are one of those things that i don't really have strong preferences about until it's done badly

tho its kinda fun realizing belatedly that i've bought from the same artist multiple times after recognizing their sigs
