My elderly mother received a very nice iPad for Christmas and I feel like this is the perfect opportunity to try to wean her off shitty right-wing talk radio and onto some good good podcasts

Does anyone have any recs for an older lady? She watched a bunch of Unsolved Mysteries back in the day, has watched all the Star Treks

She watches Hallmark Christmas movies for about 6 months out of the year every year

Pretty sure she's read all of the Outlander books and definitely sure she's watched the TV (?) series

Oh, if she enjoyed Unsolved Mysteries, I would recommend the Unsolved Mysteries podcast!

Done by the same folks who did the TV show.

She also might like Dark Histories, it's in a similar vein but deals with historic murders/crimes/mysteries.

And the host is a soft spoken British man with a very soothing voice

that sounds perfect too! The only kind of close thing I listen to is Chilluminati and I'm not sure she'd dig those lads' brand of humor
A Wild Barbara

YEAH I listen to a lot of podcasts that sound like the subject matter is up her alley, but the hosts' brand of humor is probably not what a lady who sounds a lot like my mom would be into.
A Wild Barbara

But Dark Histories is not at all comedic and the host is a historian who's just presenting these strange things to the audience without personal flair or commentary.

Hah, yeah, none of the podcasts I listen to are really up her alley, sadly

Oh, and if she's into Outlander, I am sure there is an Outlander official podcast.

I guess I'll check around for an Outlander podcast, too XD

Official podcasts are generally Safe, as they're done by the people making the original media.

Just these two (maybe three?) should be an excellent place to start

My mom listens to This American Life
Mr. Ballen does a lot of true crime stuff and presents it like a murder mystery. He’s got a great flair for storytelling and is just fun and easy to listen to

Fab! Thank you both <3
m' not sure if this would be to her taste but you must remember this is a very good, in depth podcast about Hollywood history
Like, admittedly, I have only listened to the Manson episodes cause that is my interest, but it might be of interest to her
Already gone is a true crime podcast that is pretty good.
If your mom is big into Hallmark movies, Hallmark has its own podcast called Hallmark Channels’ Bubbly Sesh
There are a ton of Hallmark podcasts out there, but a lot of them are more snarky, and I don't know what your mom's sense of humour is like. So the official Hallmark podcast seems safest? Or at least, most in line with the movies

Bland Vanilla Presentation is better than snark, yeah! I'll check out the Hallmark podcast, too, TY!
Judging by this, anything by Parcast would be good, but I'm particularly fond of Female Criminals
they're very unbiased in their presentation, so not OTT snarky/side commentary
(I also like their Cults and Secret Societies, but that's my own weird fixation lol)

I don't know if this would interest her, but I like 99% Invisible. It's about design: product design, architecture, city planning and the effects. most other stuff I listen to is probably too snarky, but this one isn't

You never know! Can't hurt to try and maybe she'll develop a new interest - thank you
