I'm at the start of season 4 and it's been kind of meh since season 2 ended so my momentum slowed down a lot

the only complaint i had was they almost made me think someone was gonna die and i was mad about it

whereas I feel like not enough people are dying and now the cast is bloated

it started with a pretty full ensemble and kept adding characters and now it's like "here are the protags but their story is finished so they'll hang out in the background while these new people speak"

I just remembered the beautiful thruple from season 2

but oh no, can't have a woman around in a functional and caring relationship with two men. polyamory is not allowed, she must be shoehorn into a ship with the random brother who was in like two episodes

the first two seasons are so clearly like. "the idea of only dating a single sex is archaic and we have no problem seeing gender as a construct and giving bodily pleasure to everyone regardless of genetalia" and then 3 and 4 are just like "no the guys are over here and the straights are over here and there will be no crossover" and it feels reductive

....we have come a long way from "lol come tag my characters" I haven't updated my watchalong plurk in a while

i feel like isobel and maria come back into focus in s4 at least. and as much as i love malex i also enjoyed the threesome and that whole execution was weird after. and then gregory falls into a plothole anyway

if you like Michael and Alex together, they get a Lot of solid relationship stuff in season 3

i thought they'd been doing much better than the original in how everybody was. much older and the dynamics more interesting

the direction for Alex always feels kind of weird to me. it's like "we have this extra person who isn't an alien so he can't directly play in alien stuff but we need him to be informed when he talks to Michael so he's off doing parallel alien stuff two rooms away"

but also season 3 is when they swap to obviously working through Lockdown so that adds to the feeling of being disjointed. no big group scenes, lots of shots of just one person talking, lots of reasons for people to be weirdly isolated
