Next month, they're making me go all the way down to Manhattan's ass crack to wait around doing nothing for three days and explaining why I hate cops and the American judicial system for two minutes out of those 24 hours
jury duty summons are peak "This could've been an e-mail"
It's a month from now, sure, but I'm still gonna be incredibly upset about it
I once again get to explain to a judge and a smug defense attorney proud to sit on his ass that no, I'm not going to trust the testimonies of cops or the justice system's ability to get shit done. The past few years especially have been proof of how untrustworthy the police really are.
And they personally failed me when a kid who assaulted me in middle school got let out a few weeks later, so why the fuck should I trust anyone in that court room
Mom keeps insisting that I'll get paid for my time but WHO FUCKING CARES ABOUT MONEY
YES, I'M UNEMPLOYED AND IT'D BE NICE FOR ME TO HELP OUT, BUT I GOT BACK ON FOOD STAMPS FOR THAT
I can say from personal experience that if you do make it to voir dire, if you have a sobbing panic attack they will let you go
whatever they pay is 100% not worth it
Oh that's a good one. I'll need to remember that.
I mean it wasn't an intentional action on my part but it, uh, got what I needed to do done
I'm not a good enough liar to do it on the fly, honestly
But I am chronically depressed and living with PTSD
Maybe I can ask my therapist if she can write a letter documenting why I'm not mentally fit to be a juror
you could! I had a medical excuse the last time I was called; I was dealing with another issue that kind of dovetailed with the anxiety thing and I got off
(my anxiety over getting called again actually set off another issue I ended up having to go to a doctor for, go figure)
That is actually awful and I'm sorry you had to deal with that
Thank you
the time that set off the panic attack was for a violent crime I will not detail and I was 100% not prepared or willing to deal with that
Fuuuuuuck all the justice system
I got lucky with mine, I could just use covid as an excuse to not even show up
I was shocked I got seated because I personally know judges and lawyers all over town.
like it's so insane how much judges run things honestly
