I continue to light the cult candles of "dear job gods please just get me a fuggin' desk job with health benefits" aka. jobs just... feel like finance now, as in it's become ever-labyrinthine to get in and succeed and only people who seem to be enfranchised manage to pull it off.
Job applications have failed now, systems are so borked that recruiters will now habitually lie to both the clients and the people being recruited, and interview rounds are up to 7-15, like. it's so easy to get lost in the weeds when i just want to trade my labor for the ability to pay my electricity bill
microwork setups pay out so little over such a long time, and it's for things like "scan your id card for us", "tell us all this personal data that is worth WAY more than 3 dollars, but we're giving you 3$". and heaven forbid you try fiver or amazon or taskrabbit, because you're working as your own agent, AND still just a face in a sea of faces .
like. if i don't get 850$ or make a deal with pg&e, they're going to cut our electricity off, but i can't really do anything about that since anything that would potentially bring in money will do so after I've got it all out there and hope it lands well.
and yeah "hey if you hate the work environment change it! protest! advocate!" great, is the local advocacy group going to pay me while i do all that work for them? because while i'm out helping them, i'm not doing an active job search or working on my own things.
yeah it's like. I caved and threw my resume at the freest of resume review sites, and got back an incredibly depressing score. not the least because by thing doesn't "have metrics" (FOR WHAT, I DID CUSTOMER SERVICE, OFFICE, AND CREATIVE WORKS), and that it wasn't formatted all in bullet points so that the machines could chew on it well.
