quick little reflection about how to go about characterization things in the game wrt: Alan Wake 2 stuff that somewhat retcons things from Alan's past. CW: drugs talk

So first game, they just say he has a drinking problem b/c it's a t-rated game, but in some of the supplement books it's implied he prob also did drugs.

AW2 says he has a general substance abuse problem and shows a couple instances of him doing cocaine, plus the translation for Oh Deer Diner in his mental Dark Place manifestation of New York has it named the OD Diner, which feels just too deliberate and overdosing is not usually a term used for drinking.

so like it's confirmed he's done stuff other than drinking but in an effort to make sure i wasn't deviating too much from what might or might not be canon, i've skirted the whole drugs thing w/him. now that it's retconned in confirmation, just grappling with having that be A Thing in conversations that doesn't feel like a sudden OOC shift
