was chipping away at and finalizing the player plot pitch for the one Vin and I have discussed running and I wanted to see about getting some feedback/insight (like an open poll) about things people expect from a plot and how it's run, and things they like to see for engaging with a plot
latest #28
because i know things have been, in a word, messy about this month and last month
I know clear CWs being included in regard to the plot contents is a huge one, but I'm also curious about other thoughts and expectations
idk how much we're allowed to share our proposals with other players who are not mods for review and insight or I would simply just ask if anyone wants to take a look at it and give some feedback

(idk if it's discouraged so as to not spoil plots for the coming year)

as far as I know that's allowed, most people just choose not to

(but that's my player belief, haven't checked it as a mod answer so don't take it as one)
in my experience most player plots have at least a couple of people privy to a considerable amount of information on the plot, often players who have helped work out hinky stuff with the planning stages or frankly just close friends of the players. it also really depends on the person planning how open they are and what kind of event it is
for example there are some plots that we know happen approximately every two years so there's very open discussion about them on plurk, and we know to expect intense plots around Halloween (and often but not always Valentine's day), and even though those are like Mod Plots technically there are often player plot elements if that makes sense
so while I also don't have word of god on this, I think it's really a matter of personal preference

unless it's also uh... what's the word. screened? on the player plot submission post, anyone could "spoil" themselves on 'em
in terms of other expectations... I guess the one thing I'm not 100% sure about is whether the process behind the scenes has changed at all. I did my player plot like a year and a half ago when the mod team makeup was different and at that time they were very hands on about things like...

they're not private usually, we just generally don't go about talkin' about 'em in a big capacity (i know in my own case it's because i'm lazy and i never read the player plot submission post)
idk they straight up told me, we are concerned these parts of the plot are unwieldy and will be confusing to people, let's workshop and figure out a way to get your point across without being overwhelming to the player base

i also tend to run my own plots through like 15 people first (i'm exaggerating but i am bad at keeping secrets) and i've reviewed others prior to submission
I don't know if that's still the case - it was also expected that all of my posts etc be in like a month or more ahead of time and I'm not sure if that's the case still either. but my point is that some of that like . what the hell is the word I'm thinking of
editing??? I guess. may also happen behind the scenes re mod feedback etc
I would have to think a little bit about other general preferences and expectations that I've seen at a time that's not 6 am but I'll come back to this. I appreciate you asking the question though, very genuinely, and I hope you get good/varied feedback
nods. what i have written up is just a proposal for the mechanics and overall narrative, with the thought that the actual OOC resources presented would be revised and tidied up later to the stuff that's just relevant info to the player base
(the proposal is full of a lot of "this is why the how of this mechanic exists" so as to not make it seem like I'm pulling a bunch of shit out of my ass)
(i didn't want to be like "just trust me, there's a reason" while listing mechanics)
this is all to say that i expect there will be editing and changes along the way
also ty for the feedback so far!

Mods do still workshop plots with players, and usually edit the IC and OOC posts to a greater or lesser extent, but we're always happy if people come with a developed idea
Yeah the last time I did a player plot it was a different mod team... i don’t think things have changed and usually players will run their stuff by at least one person outside of the plot planning to make sure it reads well/suggest things
Whether that person be a mod or another player
But player plot submissions are not screened as far as I know so the spoiling part is wholly on who you want to like. Directly send the info to?
I’d say maybe get someone who hasn’t played a Wake game look over it to make sure it makes sense and the mechanics feel fun to engage in
yeah, afaik most if not all of the mods are not canon familiar so i was figuring if anything didn't make sense to the mods it would not make sense to the players as well
vin just looked it over and said it seemed all good from a proposal standpoint so i'm just gonna drop the link here so that if anyone wants to give it a gander, they can
