longer version: since i was recovering from my surgery in august (all better now, clean bill of health from the followup appointment last week, only waiting on a genetics team referral that seems to have gotten stuck in the underfunded system but that's more about "is there anything my extended family might need to know about regarding cancer risk" than
me getting along personally) an opportunity popped up via my mum's workplace where if i retrain as an accountant or tax adviser through distance learning, they were willing to fund the whole course, and if i qualify they could offer a job right away
and i said i needed to think about it bc i had a hole cut in me a month ago and tbh wasn't totally comfortable like, taking advantage of my mum hearing about it first
but i thought about it some more since ive gotten better and... really ive wanted to retrain in something since the teaching thing didn't work out, and money has been the biggest barrier other than mental health bc with the current absolute state of tory england welfare doesn't even really cover food after bills now
so why not a course that they're willing to take a chance on and fund, which if i manage to do it would give a certification i can take to literally any sector
so i agreed to it this week and im registered now, im Doin It
oh that could be fun! like. as long as the workplace doesn't suck ass.
it's a little scary! but so is the current situation, which wasn't improving, and it should lead to better things!
i've done like One accounting class before and it was so satisfying that i think back on it sometimes like "if i had my head screwed on straight 10 years ago i might have gone into that seriously". put number in box. make box equal other box.
i hope it's fruitful and i also hope you enjoy it.
yeah they even specified it could be remote work and/or part time hrs if i get qualified, they just had their senior tax adviser leave the firm and basically they are scraping by regulations by stating that some current employees including my mum are "studying for" the qualification so the tax work they do is work experience
so they really want someone to actually pass, as many different baskets for that egg as possible, which is why they're willing to fund a nobody as long as a current employee vouches for them
it's a good opportunity, both in general and to do something that's like. you can tangibly be good at it and have proof that you're good at it and that's a very secure feeling.
i do organise stuff for fun, i do like numbers and things lining up, i can write, i think it's doable if i work hard so im going to give it my best shot
i felt like that when i got an essay published even though it was such a small part of that book lol
that's a really cool opportunity
