The ship had been filled with 1 1/2 million gallons of fuel the night before. The oil slick you can see in the picture is a seepage still coming from it - 9 1/2 ounces leaks daily.

I suspect the leakage is oil from the engine casing, but I might be wrong

probably not fuel oil anymore but residue oil from fuel tubing and fuel pumps and and slowly rusting storage containers for lubricant oils.
