So, for this year's 'Market Day at Birka' (an SCA vending event held in Manchester NH at the end of January) I will be bringing my new magnetic hatpins, and a few Byzantine-inspired cloak pins - and something else for the A&S display.

For cloak pins, these are almost finished. I will be cutting and twisting rods into the actual pins this weekend. https://images.plurk.com/mDLGel4ZWlDylnf5Uqtqh.png https://images.plurk.com/4OjgxZpjVAcpjR6m1nbluM.png https://images.plurk.com/4wSx4LZ5CWjEljWpuJe1nK.png https://images.plurk.com/1Pb89VTZyaxs99Ea8gD4r1.png https://images.plurk.com/560Rz3gYdDT97SekordUNt.png the last photo shows what I am talking about

And then, for the Arts and Science display, I chose this. It's part of a Roman body chain. This is a photo of the real thing, courtesy of the British Museum.

I couldn't actually find the size of the pendant, but the coin on the back piece is a solidus of Gratian, and I found out the diameter of that!

It is 23.45mm. the frame around the coin is aprox 1/2 the diameter of the coin at top, sides and bottom, making it roughly 46.90mm high and wide.

So, almost 2 inches (1.846).

So, knowing roughly what I had to work with, I made this. It isn't quite done yet, and final size will be approx 2 x 2.5 inches.

I have to put the backing on, and will probably add a beaded chain if I have the time. the actual chain is something called foxtail chain that I don't have the training or tools to create. It's actual metalwork and involves soldering links, etc.

I was going to start on another project as well, buy I am just swamped trying to get finished got this first event. I have more seashell necklaces, some Gothic necklaces, and I just found some really cool crow-skull pendants that I am hoping to use to make something!

Also, this is the first year that I will be vending under my own name - Finelee Crafted, and not under my husband's bladesmithing business. https://images.plurk.com/76bsmaphuG9hOgSf3ehQn9.jpg

Both really excited and really nervous - what if I bomb?

I don't think I will, but vending is such a gamble. We lost money on the art gallery that we have had our products in, and won't be doing it again this year. They are off the beaten path and just didn't get the customer base acquired.

I also covered a modern cloak clasp in beads and stones to make it look more medieval and gave it to a friend as a gift. It would prob work well for the cosplay and fantasy crowds as well. https://images.plurk.com/43cRCnXFeO7f92U4a9dX9e.png

I also have a bunch of other stuff, but I am in the middle of hauling and stacking wood on the deck before the storm hits, so I won't be able to show right now.
