I still don't think Plurk will ever take off like Twitter.

Perhaps not for you. But I think this will appeal to some Twitterers - and lots of folks who don't grok Twitter.

hmmmm ... I guess we will see. It still feels way too messy. And, does it totally break down on mobile?

I actually like Plurk better than twitter. I can check out conversations and see what people are saying about a topic easier here!

courosa's feeling- it's too messy. Despite conversation structure difficult to keep track of messages. You miss too much/can't find it.

what it needs is an indication in Mobile mode that you have read conversations so you can choose timeline or mobile=twitter. Then might work
teach42 says
2008-06-28T12:40:55.000Z
That's funny because I like the mobile version a lot. Much easier to follow conversations, versus having to click around and around.
teach42 thinks
2008-06-28T12:41:38.000Z
that Twitter is doing its best to drive people away as it is. Honestly, that's the main reason I'm here. Sick of the whale.

The mobile version could can compare to Twitter. The timeline is a different game.

I'm a little sad Alec hasn't come back in a few weeks. Lot of respect for you! BUT - even Gates said "64K ought to be enough for anybody"
kwhobbes says
2008-07-23T16:24:42.000Z
yeah, kind of sad that Alec didn't really give it a fair shot. It's hard to get people to try new things when they are comfortable. ;-)

way too many things out there and you know something newer and shiner than Plurk is coming down the road. I hope this lasts though

I totally agree. But for now, Plurk is the best of the bunch. And, like what could come next, they too can upgrade. I'd even consider
vdub144 says

going back to Twitter, if it wasn't so fundamentally broken underneath.

Kymberli_M will

Alec EVER know? Will his cross-network friends EVER inform him?
kwhobbes says
2008-08-27T02:47:37.000Z
I think Alec is much like some of the teachers I work with - they get use to doing things one way and just can't make the transition... sigh
vdub144
2008-08-27T03:32:48.000Z
Really? I've admired him, actually. I was surprised by this - but honestly, you can only spread yourself so thin. I didn't take to Plurk at
vdub144

first either... Oh, and Shareski's friends told him cross network, so I know there is plenty of back and forth over here. ;-)

courosa - it's just a different way of looking at the world - spin those glasses a bit.
courosa
2008-08-27T03:54:40.000Z
LParisi, I already seem to have 72 friends, and 127 followers. I think I may have to begin by deleting some, not sure.
courosa
2008-08-27T03:55:03.000Z
And how does one know to look back to these conversations? For instance, are you notified that there was a new response here?
vdub144
2008-08-27T03:53:24.000Z
ROTFL... Oh my. The PRESSURE of the PLN! Alec, its great to have you back- glad you remembered your password! (g_lol)
vdub144
2008-08-27T03:54:08.000Z
Yes, they continue to appear in the same thread they were started in. You'll notice a number next to the plurk-that's responses, and it is
vdub144
2008-08-27T03:56:16.000Z
red when there are new responses in that plurk.
LParisi says
2008-08-27T03:56:32.000Z
When you come on, you can see how many conversation threads were added since you were here.
vdub144
2008-08-27T03:56:44.000Z
Once you get caught up, its not too hard to stay on top of it every hour or so for a few minutes.
LParisi says

Feel free to mark all as read when there are too many to handle..I think we all do that.
courosa
2008-08-27T03:56:36.000Z
Allright ... but is there a different view than the timeline view? You mean I have 2 scroll over my timeline view 2 check for conversations?
rorowe says
2008-08-27T04:01:25.000Z
The notifications (lower left corner of timeline) wil act as filters for the timeline, making it a little easier.
LParisi says
2008-08-27T04:02:33.000Z
I rarely scroll back. Like rorowe said, look at the corner of the timeline to see what is new.
kdumont says
2008-08-27T04:02:49.000Z

vdub144
2008-08-27T04:06:48.000Z
You can get a very Twitteresque view at plurk.com/m if you wish, but you will grow to like the organization of the timeline.

kdumont that's a good way to put it. Different tools serving different purposes
vdub144
2008-08-27T04:22:52.000Z
Yeah, Twitter is a better "broadcast" platform. Saying something on Plurk invites responses - the "tiny pebbles" theory.
