Thanks to a recent hack at our credit union, I'm in the process of going through all our online accounts, updating and improving passwords, and deleting accounts we no longer use or need. We sure left a big trail of digital debris over the last couple of decades!

My digital trail is more like a swath, but yeah!

Oof! I'll have to do that eventually. And keep a copy of those passwords some place safe in case I die, so someone can warn my friends and close my accounts.

skipz: It's that slow accumulation that catches up to us over time, without us even realizing how much. Oh well, dogged determination is one of my fortes, so I'll get it done.

CeejayWriter: Your swath is wider than mine, but you've kept up with yours a lot better too, especially since you've learned to make such good use of "time pockets" to get things done.

StereoNacht: Yeah, that's where a good password manager comes in handy. Create lots of long, complicated passwords without worrying about remembering them, and let the program keep track of them for you. Then you can use the program to create a safe backup or a printout that you can tuck away for others to use later.

I have used 1Password for years at David’s recommendation and it has kept me sane. And probably saved my marriage! I get VERY stabby about password issues.

dkronfeld: Between our anti-virus program, the password manager, our VPN service and our Identity Theft Protection service, we pay a lot of money so that hackers can roam around and make a profit off the less well protected. They used to compare the Internet to the Wild West, but these days it's more like Chicago gangsters from the 1920s.

Fogwoman: 1Password is a good choice - always in the top five of password managers.

I use that and dropbox to keep me organized and sane.

Fogwoman: Ironically, dropbox was one of the accounts I closed. ('m doing this process as well.)

Fogwoman: I deleted my Dropbox account, but only because I had more than enough storage through our Microsoft 365 account (1TB) plus Google Drive (17GB).

For me it functions as a way for me to store stuff so it accessible from my PC desktop & laptop and iPhone. Was a lifesaver in the big cross country move, and is super helpful being bedbound so much.
