same with "done dirty by creators" in the sense that i think penelope was underutilized in the first season but like, it's just good gming to use NPCs that the players show interest in rather than trying to force a dynamic with others.

anyway penelope everpetal sucks so much. the worst kind of teenage girl given the divine right of kings to drive her mad. my "controversial" take that would be akin to hitting a wasps nest with a baseball bat is that i don't think she's any better or worse than aelwyn or kipperlily.

tim is a character that i have a very complicated relationship that has had it's ups and downs, mostly defined by how utterly insufferable i find most of the tim fandom. when i actually read his robin run i was pretty surprised at how much he grew on me and now he's easily in the top tier of my favorite batfamily members. this is also helped by your tim tbh

which is easily the best i've ever written with or encountered and hits the sweet spot between little guy and total prick that i think is essential to tim's character toward the latter end of his pre 52 character arc. he's perfect.

zdarsky writing about how he's the best robin and so much better than any of the others repeatedly and having batman say this in his head repeatedly does make me roll my eyes into the back of my head tho. it's a balancing act.

chaiteacup: satokk. normally when talking about satoko i seperate pre gousotsu and gousotsu satoko because my opinion is different either way

i will always stand by gousotsu satoko having tons of narrative potential though, and in some ways something along those lines was always bound to happen as a result of her pre-existing coping strategies and the ways she's been treated. it's just done badly and gousotsu and meguri are a mess for different reasons (meguri is higher quality though)

I'm so flattered you have no idea ahaha and YEAH I strongly believe that Tim was always intended to be a self-insert..... but DC had the idea of "4chan at 2 in the morning and mt dew" as their boy-club target audience back then... and I do think it shapes a lot of Tim's... tim-ness, that fandom tends to entirely deny (he's such a dick i love him)

tim's self insertness is fascinating to me because he's also inadvertedly a tragic deconstruction of that same trope

the audience surrogate arrives to put the story back on track and reaffirm the hopeful legacy of robin only to gradually realize the main hero is a manipulative self centered asshole and that being robin is also a huge burden that you can't easily let go of and by the end of it tim just ended up taking on bruce's bitter ruthlessness instead

she's kind of an odd one because while i have my own interpretations of her i'm not entirely convinced they're the correct ones because we have a whole other book coming out where she's probably going to feature a fair bit. and i also don't really hate the fanon surrounding her even if i don't necessarily agree with it. i think people fall for her front

and see her as a lot more heartless than she actually is and also kind of fall for other character's fronts and see her as uniquely Bad just because she's the only one that parades herself around like a supervillain

she is a horrific person and a sneering imperialist, and just kind of a nightmare to be around, but like. i wouldn't really say harrow or gideon are "better".
