went to the nearby local k-dog place. got one for me. saw the photos of the tornado potatoes. thought "$5 is a little pricey but that should be a nice snack for me and my mom" and ordered two. I was not prepared for the size. the photo lied in the wrong direction.

We love potatoes, but this is overengineered for the average Mexican food stall.

fourboars: Yes but you're just confirming what I said with the overengineered bit
I only found them in the south tx flea markets a handful of years ago but now I wonder where these things originated

I've had the grocery store versions so I was assuming that that would be closer to the version I'd be getting from this place because the k-dogs are kinda hacked/more k-dog inspired than actual k-dog

Because their k-dog offerings are very Mexicanized

The Korean shopping district near my grad school did not have anything approaching this at the various k-dog places, haha https://images.plurk.com/7F9CaP8dTAq55GUN1c4AJZ.jpg

smithsyndicate: It's all on us Mexican-Americans. 😔 We love causing regular local news report reminders about not eating flamin' hot cheetos to the point of ruining your stomach lining every few years.

I don't even LIKE spicy food usually and even I would sometimes go all in for that delicious danger bag as a teenager (hot cheetos, nacho cheese, jalapeños, hot sauce)

smithsyndicate: but also do yours do the fruity pebble dogs because that is an option at this place 👀

fourboars: Hopefully when you move north you'll be lucky enough to find a nearby Korean place or two, the food has a solid overlap with a lot of the core flavors/aspects of Mexican food.
