KallistiBurns: Someone last year said the proceeds from the song go to an aids org or something, so it’s annoying, but for a good cause?

£300,000 a year to Ethiopian famine relief, apparently - or what Spotify alone makes in profits in a little over 3 hours. The song has been systematically overplayed in the UK for decades. Personally if people still want to download or stream it to their own ends, fine - it's not going to hugely impact the cut going to charity, but in turn...
...saturation broadcasting of the same old songs impacts creativity, affects the lives of current music makers and leads to less and less variation in musical landscape. It seems like a good idea but ultimately it harms the industry moving forward.

Research for over a decade has pointed towards high selling and widely played artists "sounding more and more similar" over the last few decades, meaning if you're out of that loop, it's harder to make good on your efforts financially. It's demoralising.
