[hh] Does anyone get into writing ruts where they can barely write ANYTHING because they keep editing the crap out of every sentence they put down and talking themselves out of every single narrative possibility they come up with? If so, what are your favorite solutions for working through it/overcoming it?
I... mostly rp and haven't had time for that
but I think with that feeling you're just supposed to push through
rp is sorta... nano but all year long, tbh? like you could spend forever making the most perfect replies ever and I won't say that I never change my mind mid post but
the important thing is getting it out and being generally coherent
in your case I presume you're writing fic
in which maybe nano principles could apply
you can always edit it before you post it
but you should get it out of your system and see how it goes
and worry about changing/scrapping it later
it's not like anyone else will see it until you want too so maybe if you focus on that?
True! Good ideas! Thanks! (a.k.a. it is OBNOXIOUS when performance anxiety decides to kick and make writing difficult, because EVENTUALLY people will see it. SIIIIIIIGH.)
I feel like rp has made me just very
FINE THESE ARE SOME WORDS I ARRANGED HAVE THEM BEFORE I COLLAPSE
THEY MAY OR MAY NOT MAKE SENSE, C'EST LA VIE
hah. yeah, I can imagine!
I did a bunch of prompts to try to get me to that point, but instead they're just SUUUUPER stressful and anxiety-producing
(I think RP would probably make me quit writing for good; I don't think I could handle the self-imposed pressure)
I mean. I've been rping since I was 11. in 2002.
though I have realised lately how ironic it is that I think Icouldn't possibly write a novel
when I often write over 10k a week
I wish I could tell you there's a magical way to get over it but I'm not sure there is
other than getting used to it, maybe, and/or somehow making your brain agree that first drafts are gonna first draft and thats okay
and ahaha yeah..... I've been playing morgana for like eight years it's a problem
Sounds nice!
I'd agree with the forcing yourself to write something and move on
coming back to a sentence later usually makes it easier to edit fruitfully
If you have the words/ideas in your brainpan I’ll sometimes record them or do speech to text to get them down and then work from there :>
