believes it's a good thing scale is in the forefront. It's a commonly overlooked topic with system design
that the test should just be Leo telling everyone to "break it"
that should be Leo's new website.. "Will It Scale?"
that's the million peso question.
mkoby
thinks 16 years ago
there should be a new YouTube-cast called "Will it Scale?"
.. or will it blend?
Haha.. that made me go watch some will it blend videos
... It's getting the "Leo" test right now.
Leo should develop a Twitter replacement to rule them all.
we are working pretty hard to make plurk scale
we haven't really optimized things yet as we have just launched a few weeks ago
just to generally inform that we are having some scaling issues right now and these things should be settled during today
we are working on adding lazy fetching of freinds, amazon s3 hosting of profile pics and adding two extra web-boxes
An attempt to show all Leo's friends failed: "the server has either erred or is incapable of performing the requested operation."
It seems to be holding up so far. Give it a minute.
it scale? that is the question. "site smoke, don't breath this"
will it scale but will it take off? get popular?
will they learn their lesson from Twitter...
will twitter ever learn the lesson?
load time on this string is a drag
we need a plurkdir like how there's a twitdir or a plurkaholic even.
isn't convinced it'll work. This, or throwing out a comment in an app like Twhirl? The pre-structured sentence form can also kill the funny.
I sure some of thing everyone wants we be out at some point.
I'm seeing errors, can't add icon pic or profile info, can't connect IM accounts.
errors have been more and more since ealier. To much traffic
To donate equipment to Plurk please see below.......ha ha
of course it will scale. It's not Twitter.
we have now added some optimizations that should make plurk run stable again and we have lots of more in store
veronica belmont says that it's down for her, but obviously not for me.
Not down for me... Obviously...
Since the Tech Guy id over Plurk has clam down some and is working
Leo, I've got no clue what you mean by "scale." Maybe I'm just an ignoramus, though. You say it a lot, and I never know what you mean.
He means, will Plurk be able to manage lots of new users when someone like Leo joins, and draws in many new people.
people like me, who joined because of him
that we're back in action
Scaling can hard if it needs hardware. If you do not have the users you do not get the money. But no money you can not get the hardware need
we haven't quite expected such a sudden invasion of that many users and where still running on one virtual server for testing purposes
I'll be fairly impressed if you can move from virt server to something that will calm the flood.
a "Will it Scale" YouTube series.
It is called host a BT tracker on your site, then close it. I hear that generates traffic!
is this why you recruited all the Twitter-ers?
'will it scale?' sounds like a weighing scale version of 'will it blend?" series, but not as dramatic or exciting.
we have a test for it, it's called "The Digg Effect"
leolaporte, jasoncalacanis, kevinrose, and scobleizer are the tests. If the service can survive with those four on...
jasoncalacanis doesn't seem real either ... why would his timeline be private?
