Binta informs me that it should not be spicy.

I don't think there are any varieties of melon which are supposed to be spicy

i feel like a lot of minor food allergies are like that--i had a similar situation with a moringa tea where I was like "this probably isn't supposed to make your mouth itch"

yeah you're allergic to cantaloupe, it's just kinda sweet juice. there's no spice o_o
Thyme_Traveler

yeah... it never really occurred to me, and I don't eat cantaloupe very often anyway

i feel like "it never really occurred to me" is a common refrain in these spicy banana situations

since we're discovering things, a poll:
does mint burn?
Wolfiso

yes, but like wasabi and garlic, it's an aromatic sinus clearing burn of varying strength, not a mouth itch or spice tingle
Garza_Bird

mint does not burn for me, it can be strong, but i guess i don't think garlic burns either unless you put chopped raw garlic directly in your mouth

for me, fresh ginger or pineapple sometimes gives me that tingly prickly mouth feeling that might be an allergy
Thyme_Traveler

like, sometimes really strong peppermint or spearmint burns, like mouthwash or the Altoids mints
Garza_Bird

Ohhhhh, yeah I think I had an Altoids mint when I was a kid, and then like, subconsciously refused to have another ever again
Alterz

I refuse the cinnamon ones on principle, but I can do the peppermint ones from time to time.

I very much dislike spicy cinnamon, especially in candy? like red-hots etc. if cinnamon is in candy, I want cinnamon sugar. like on toast.

I always feel mint in my ears. not like a burn but like it makes my inner ears cold and feel stuffed?
ButINEEDThatArm

cool, gonna file mint under potentially a sensitivity and definitely a big dislike, cuz I understand mouthwash burning because of the alcohol, but I probably shouldn't get a similar sensation from toothpaste...
Alterz

idk, some toothpastes can be pretty intense

since it's a "big dislike" you may not give a shit about testing it, but if you're super curious i'd recommend trying a mint chocolate, those are usually pretty mild so if it still burns then that answers the question

(i say "usually" because sometimes you've got, like, peppermint patties, which are A Lot, and i say that as a person who likes mint)
