I need to vent for a moment.
I'm watching the season 2 finale of Strange New Worlds and, once again, the Captain and most of the senior officers are going down to the planet under extremely hazardous conditions.
For crying out loud, don't they have a commando unit or something? A dedicated expedition team at least?

I understand keeping the focus on a handful of cast, but it just kills me. Would it be so bad to have a set of recurring characters as the away team?
to be fair it makes more sense in this situation, since the captain is disobeying a direct order from Admiral April, and thus wants to do it himself and not order anyone to go
in this particular case, sure. I can accept that reasoning. But, in all the Trek series they always send the command crew when a dedicated "encounter team" would do. Every. Single. Time.
